Dear Friends,

John Scott. John was an avid photographer, the 1965-66 MCHS yearbook notes. He was a member of the Annual Board; his responsibility was Photography.

It is great sadness that I wish to tell you of the passing of a dear friend and colleague. Many of you know John’s passion for his work in the field of weather radar at King Radar and with the National Radar Program.

John passed away on January 14th 2015 at the Markham Stouffville Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation and a Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 18th at 3pm and service at 4pm respectively at the ‘Low and Low Funeral Home’, 23 Main Street, Uxbridge.

The list is in development. Any help from any source will be appreciated. This list (below) is a start. We request help from MCHS alumni in development of the list. We want to have photos and brief texts, at the reunion, for each MCHS grad (and teacher) from the 60s era – anybody who attended or worked at MCHS at any point in the 60s – who has passed away.

    Leo Hoyas

    Harry Boshouers

    John W. Scott

    Heinz Schlutz

    Steven Suter

I have an addition to this list from a comment by Harry Chan at

Harry Chan (MCHS 65) shares with us some great MCHS Sixties memories

    Harry writes, in a comment:

“Gok Gee Wing died in a tragic accident when he was in his early twenties. I knew the family well. They lived on St. Evariste. Could not find his obituary but did find one of his father that recounts the family’s interesting history. His younger brother Simon, became an endocrinologist.”

I found the picture of John Scott particularly saddening. After a life spent facing new students, one develops an instinct about each of the students from his/her appearance. And my sense is that looking at him in a class I would have seen a particularly decent person, the sort it is a pleasure to see in a class.

John was in my grade 9 class. I remember him as the student who always got the 10/10 on the weekly quizzes. We rode the MTC bus home together, with John getting off at the top of Toupin to go to his house at the top of Beausejour. He was a good person, gone far too young.

We owe thanks to Dejan (Danny) Ristic and Howard Hight for letting us know of the passing of John Scott. He will be remembered.

I have updated the list that I began in a previous Comment:

Gok Gee Wing died in a tragic accident when he was in his early twenties.

As well, we learned of the passing of Steven Suter (MCHS 62) some time back. With regard to Steve, it was Peter Mearns who brought us up to date.
