Additional comment from Donald McMaster (MCHS 1967) regarding memories of teachers from the 1960s

In a previous post, I’ve had the opportunity to share some great reflections about Malcolm Campbell High School from Donald McMaster (MCHS 1967):

Donald McMaster graduated from MCHS in 1967 and went on to study Electrical Engineering

Donald has recently sent me an email, on receiving the DVD of the MCHS yearbooks (1961-62 to 1973-74) that I mailed to him recently; with Donald’s permission, I have posted his email as a comment at the above-noted post, and have also posted it here, in a separate post, as a way to bring attention to his message:

Donald McMaster wrote (April 5, 2016):

Jaan:

I just received the MCHS DVD you sent.

I have sent you $5 in Payment. Let me know when you get it.

Thanks

It brings back memories of some of the teachers.

Bernie Shoub, Trigonometry.
Mr Kupperman, History, Drivers Ed; who fought against the Japanese in WW II.
Peter Kemp, Gym; who was a field goal Kicker for the Montreal Alouettes.

I also had: Perez -French, Bregman – Intermediate Algebra, Edmonson, Harold – Shop , Christmas – French.

Thanks

Donald

I also remember Bernie Shoub as a Physics teacher. And I remember him as a good man. I also appreciate the comment (please see below) from Sonia Herman Shron (MCHS 1963): “Just to clarify: I am still friends with Bernie Shoub and I agree that he was a great teacher. However, he is not a Holocaust survivor. He was born and brought up in Montreal and currently lives in Toronto.”

I remember Mr. Shoub as an amazing teacher! He was very kind, patient, and positive and was able to explain everything so very well. I did years of math after, I think at least in part due to the excitement he sparked and skills he taught so clearly. I often think about him and have told many of this fabulous teacher I remember from high school days! Thanks! Janet

It’s really wonderful to read your comment, Janet. He was a teacher that I remember. He had a quality, a way of observing things, perhaps a particular sense of humour, that has stayed with me as a memory, a positive impression, a source of inspiration after all these years.

I much appreciate the correction, Sonia. The website that I’ve set up has value to the extent that it is evidence-based. I have made changes at the post and in my own comments (please see above) based on your correction. Such errors occur from time to time, for a wide range of understandable reasons; it is of tremendous value to have the opportunity to correct them. The information and comments that remain in place, after the correction, are a valuable source of information and reflection; I much appreciate being able to post such items, regarding MCHS, at the website.
