An informal get-together for MCHS 2015 attendees (and other MCHS grads) will take place on Oct. 16, 2015 at 7:30 pm at the Stay Inn
Conference Room at Stay Inn
On Sept. 21, 2015 we received confirmation that the Conference Room at the Stay Inn is indeed available for us starting at 7:30 pm on Friday evening, Oct. 16, 2015.
At that time and location, we will have an informal getting-together of alumni and spouses who will be attending the reunion on the next day, Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6:00 pm at Old Mill Toronto.
We owe many thanks to our budget person, Lynn (Hennebury) Legge for locating this great (and inexpensive) hotel for us, and for ensuring that we would be able to book the Conference Room. Once Lynn had found the hotel online, many months ago, Jaan Pill made a point of visiting the site at once, where he took many pictures and also met with the Stay Inn manager.
BYOB for October 16th get-together at Stay Inn
The plan is BYOB as long as we don’t go wandering around the property with open refreshments. We are planning to bring an assortment of bagels from the Bagel House, which we have learned recently is a good place to buy bagels in Toronto.

Other venues for small get-togethers
The Home Smith Jazz Bar at Old Mill Toronto is also a possible place for people to meet who are not meeting at Stay Inn for the get-together. The jazz starts at 7:00 pm, at which time there is a $10 cover charge. Seating at the pub is first come, first served.
Timothy’s Pub is an option for people who would like to take in some live music on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015. On the Friday evening, a band called Parkside Drive will be playing. The noise level will be pretty high, so it’s a great place to listen to some music but having a conversation will not be as easy as would be the case in a quieter setting.
The pub is at 344 Brown Line between Horner Ave. and Lake Shore Blvd. West in South Etobicoke. That’s about a 15-minute walk from the Stay Inn.
The phone number is 416-201-9515.
In the event you plan to visit Timothy’s Pub and are staying at the Stay Inn, I would recommend that you get a taxi or arrange for a Designated Driver to drive you back to Stay Inn. I would not recommend walking from Timothy’s Pub very late at night unless there is a substantial number of people walking to Stay inn together.
Places to eat on Friday
If you’ve booked a room at the Stay Inn, some local dining options on the Friday include any restaurant at Sherway Gardens, a 15-minute walk to the west along Evans Ave. from the Stay Inn.
Not far from the Stay Inn is a restaurant that is a popular place for small groups to meet; the round tables make for great conversations. The restaurant I am thinking of is the Mandarin Restaurant on the Queensway. Reservations are recommended. Round tables are also a feature of the Oct. 17 reunion, at the Humber Room at old Mill. With round tables, you can usually talk with more people than when sitting at rectangular tables. This is especially the case where there’s a long, narrow table set up against a wall, as is standard in many restaurants where large groups meet.
Grocery stores
Yes, there is a grocery store within easy walking distance of the Stay Inn. There’s a plaza nearby. You walk west along Evans Avenue and cross south at the lights to enter the plaza. Depending on how fast you walk, it takes about 5 minutes. There’s a large grocery store and a small convenience store in the plaza also.
If you are travelling by car, there’s a Metro store at Cloverdale Mall, which you can get to travelling north via the East Mall. The Stay Inn is at the northwest corner of East Mall and Evans. There’s a Loblaws at Burnamthorpe and the East Mall, a ways north of Cloverdale Mall. There’s also a No Frills to the south, at Lake Shore Blvd. West just east of Brown’s Line. There’s also a Longo’s store on North Service Road at Applewood Plaza west of Dixie Road in Mississauga. I will discuss the grocery options in more detail in a separate post, in the event time is available to write such a post.
Reunion Rates for accommodations
We have set up an MCHS 2015 block of rooms – for October 16 and 17 – at the Stay Inn at 560 Evans Ave. just off Highway 427 and the Gardiner Expressway. The deadline for ensuring the Reunion Rate for the rooms was Sept. 17, 2015.
The rooms remain available, however, at the Reunion Rate, as of Sept. 21, 2015 when we last spoke with the manager at the Stay Inn. The rooms have now been made available for booking by non-reunion travellers, but if a Reunion Attendee wishes to book a room, it will be available at the preferred rate, so long as there is a room available.

The deadline for Reunion Rates at Old Mill Toronto has also passed, but you can still get the preferred rate, if you are an MCHS 2015 attendee – and if any rooms are still available.
