Video Message from Dorothy, age 97, to the Etobicoke-York Committee of Adjustment, October 2016
How can you help Dorothy?
Please share this video with your friends and neighbours.
Please contact us through the Preserved Stories website if you have any questions or would like to help us in our community self-organizing efforts.
We live on 39th street and see everywhere quaint homes being destroyed and lots being split and ugly mega homes being erected. This should not be allowed! The neighbourhood is losing its character and the city building codes should not be amended. Developers should not have free rein here! Where is our councillor Mark Grimes in all this??
Good to read your message, Harry. I agree with you 100 percent.
I am hoping you will be at the meeting. When people turn up, it shows they care; it shows they seek to ensure the views of the residents, who actually live on these streets, are taken into account.
I’ve discussed the issue in broader terms at a recent post:
Is it time to set up a Long Branch expat community in Mississauga?
I dropped over to visit Dorothy at her house today, and showed her the video, on my smartphone. She was pleased to see the video. Many people had been telling her that they had seen the video, and that they were impressed.
When I left her house, I said that we don’t know how this story will turn out, in the end. I added: “We’re doing our best.”
She said: “You’re doing more than your best!”
I agree with all Dorthy said. Sad to see these smaller houses taken down and huge houses replace them changing the feel of the neighbourhood.
I lived at 8 villa road for 15 years and really enjoyed my neighbours.
Please give my best to Dorthy and good luck with your endeavours.
Yours truly
Janice McCall
Good to read your message, Janice. I will pass your message along to Dorothy.
The decision went against us at the Committee of Adjustment. We will continue to do what we can.
