Vincent Massey – Letter to the Toronto Lands Corporation

I recently wrote a letter to Shirley Hoy, the CEO of the Toronto Lands Corporation, concerning the impending sale of the Vincent Massey School site. The Toronto Lands Corporation is the organization which conducts the sale of properties which the Toronto District School Board has determined are surplus. Shop the Neighbourhood – November 30th

Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two shopping holidays which often drive shoppers across the border or online, Shop The Neighbourhood is a reminder of how our choices about where we make our purchases directly impact the communities where we live, work and play.

So on November 30, 2013, show your support for local businesses by taking advantage of exclusive savings and deals to make a local purchase and Shop The Neighbourhood!

Increased Service on the TTC 66D

Starting January 6, 2014, service is being increased on the 66 Prince Edward bus route, in both the morning and afternoon peak periods, to provide more capacity on the line and reduce crowding. In the morning peak period, service on each of the two branches — 66A and 66D — will be improved from every 17 minutes to every 14 minutes. This will result in the “combined” service, north of Park Lawn and Berry Road (where both branches operate), being improved from just over every 8 minutes to every 7 minutes.

In the afternoon peak period, service on each of the two branches — 66A and 66D — will be improved from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes. This will result in the “combined” service north of Park Lawn and Berry Road (where both branches operate) being improved from every 10 minutes to just over every 7 minutes.
TTC take regular counts of ridership on all routes and, whenever we see overcrowding occurring, TTC increase sthe amount of service on the route, as long as the TTC have money in the budget to do so.

Park Improvement Consultations – Feedback Needed

Three local parks, Amos Waites, Laburnham and Birch, are slated for playground and other upgrades starting in Spring 2014. City Parks staff have provided concepts and are looking for feedback on which concepts, or aspects are the best. Don’t forget to ask your kids, they’re the experts!

Laburnham Park

City of Toronto Parks staff are looking for feedback on concept designs for a brand new playground in Laburnham Park slated for installation in Spring of 2014. Concepts one to three are below and you can view all of the presentation slides here: markgrimes.ca

Children’s Services Child Care Summits

On July 16th, 2013, Council requested that the Children’s Services Division organize a summit for Toronto parents. The purpose of the summit is to hear directly from parents their priorities, issues and challenges in accessing child care and other services for children and families. Findings will inform the City’s Child Care Service Plan and the new funding model for child care that is currently under development.
