Dorothy, age 97, stars in 4-minute opposition video about development trends at the City of Toronto. Plus: links to two, related City TV News Reports

Drawing inspiration from our neighbour Dorothy, age 97, who lives across the street from us in Toronto, I am looking forward to helping to organize a Malcolm Campbell High School Sixties reunion when the Sixties grads are in their 90s.

3 tweets (Nov. 4, 2016) from CBC reporter John Lancaster regarding committees of adjustment

‏@jlancasterCBC

1) Seems like a lot of people in Toronto are complaining about development decisions made by committees of adjustment.

2) Worth noting it’s elected officials who select members of the COAs. In other words if COAs aren’t representing the will of people

3) then perhaps pols should do a better job selecting COA members. #Toronto

Dorothy has enjoyed viewing her Video Message, and the two follow-up News Reports from City TV. On visits over the past several weeks, I’ve accessed the videos on my iPhone, so that Dorothy could watch them. In the photo (click on the image to enlarge it), Dorothy is viewing one of the two City TV videos. In each case, we’ve turned up the volume on the iPhone enabling Dorothy to hear every word.

The City TV video Dorothy is watching in the photo is entitled:

Preserve or Progress: Toronto property war

Dorothy, who has lived on Villa Road for three-quarters of a century, is a source of strong inspiration for me and for so many other fellow residents in Long Branch. She steps, in a forthright way, far beyond the powerful stereotypes associated with the passage of the years.

Thanks so much for all your help in getting Dorothy’s story and concerns online. Dorothy is my Aunt, and her strength and independence is always a source of pride and amazement. Your website and the videos that you prepared were a big treat for all of the family to view. We hope that your and the community efforts help to reduce the size of the monster home that will overshadow Dorothy’s precious space and back yard in Long Branch.

Wonderful to read your message. Dorothy sets such a great example for all of us. Your support, and the support of the many other people who have contacted us, means the world to the residents of Villa Road. We are working hard – with the support of many residents – to reach the decision makers and the wider public.

It’s a great thing for viewers – of Dorothy’s video and of the City TV videos of Nov. 3 and 4, 2016 – to be familiar with both sides of the ongoing conversation.
