A selection of lake views are now on the City of Toronto heritage register

Here’s a link to a blog/website I have been working on for a couple of years.

It originally started with the unassumed public road allowance at the bottom of Fourth, my street.

We finally have success in getting heritage designations in the City’s Official Plan for some of the lake windows in South Etobicoke.

If you have the time, you might find it interesting to look at how it started and the material I have archived.

The next fight is to get the same designation for lake windows west of Sam Smith park.

I look forward to learning more.

During the May 6, 2012 Jane’s Walk in South Long Branch we had a really interesting discussion about the origin of the Lake Views such as at the foot of Fortieth Street, and at several points along the shoreline going east from there to Colonel Samuel Smith Park. That was when I learned that the Lake Views were used years ago by the local volunteer fire department to get access to water.

These are a delightful feature of the neighbourhood and warrant heritage protection.

I look forward to learning more once the 2013 Jane’s Walks are completed.
