A Conservation Heritage District for Long Branch would be highly valuable in protecting our heritage buildings
Councillor Grimes’ office has previously shared information with us about the steps required to get the Heritage Conservation District under way.
Such a project has been discussed before. The previous discussion was valuable.
I look forward to working with other Long Branch residents, starting this year, in getting the process moving forward.
Among the comments we’ve received on this topic:
“I think that is a great idea and while it might be difficult to get approval the process of applying would certainly raise community awareness and identify properties that needed future protection!”
And:
“Count me in, please.”
The raising of community awareness is a key part of the Heritage Toronto ‘big picture’ vision of what can be done by way of heritage preservation.
If we can also identify properties in need of future protection that would be a plus.
I look forward to getting the process, wherever it may lead, under way.

I have been thinking about this for several years now and would like to be part of a group who gets this off the ground.
In a few weeks I will be opposing a severance application for 61 Long Branch at the OMB, and I would love to be able to state that our community is in the process of trying to have the former Sea Breeze/Long Branch Park area of Long Branch declared a Heritage District. I just counted well over 40 properties in that area that are listed as Heritage Properties on the Toronto Heritage Preservation site. If anyone knows of a group of people who are interested in acting on this idea, please let me know.
