We seek to get in touch with more MCHS ’60s teachers. Can you help?
Charles Tsiang (MCHS ’62) has shared a message:
“Jaan, our teachers were an enormous part of our MCHS experience. You’ve done so much via Mr. Decarie already but could you expand that by developing a list and trying to contact those still able to respond? Invite them to join the reunion or send their news.”
I have replied:
“I will share your message with the organizing committee, Charles. I will also post a separate item about this topic. It makes sense to make an effort to contact more of the teachers.”
If you can help with getting in touch with MCHS teachers, please let me know.
As part of my research for the MCHS 2015 Reunion, I often speak with people that I meet about other high school reunions they have attended. One message that I’ve picked up, from that research, is that students find it truly a treat to meet a teacher at such an event.
Often, people have been in touch with many of their fellow classmates already, and know all kinds of stories as told by students. But they would not have heard many stories by teachers, in which teachers share their recollection and insights from many years ago. For that reason, people especially love to talk with teachers, when teachers attend a high school reunion.
The girl in the front middle of the band is Joelle King.
In the photo above, taken during band practice, the only girl is Joelle King (me)! Looking at the photo, my friend to the right (with blond hair) is Ron Dykhof (Van Dyke).
It was wonderful to see this photo! I had never seen it before.
This is wonderful to know, Joelle! I looked at the photo, after I had posted it, and thought, “Joelle King” rings a bell. But I was not sure, and I always like to be sure about names. Now I am absolutely positive!
By way of an update on our efforts to locate MCHS teachers, that we can meet at the Reunion, I’ve added an update at the “Who’s Attending?” page at the MCHS 2015 website:
Graeme Decarie has informed Jaan Pill that he is planning to attend, as has Soryl Shulman (Rosenberg). If you know of other teachers from your MCHS days, please let them know about the Reunion.
Many thanks to Howard Hight and Joelle King for forwarding this photo. I’m sitting to the left of Joelle.
This picture was taken in music class with Mr. Zeypuss(spelling?)….as teacher.
He once told me that I looked like a rabbit eating a carrot.
I stopped the clarinet and moved on to the piano soon after.
