World model of sustainability
An excerpt from the article reads:
As part of the 177-acre land sale, OPG has agreed to transfer 67-acres of prime waterfront land closest to the shoreline to the City of Mississauga. The entire site is expected to house 15,000 to 20,000 people and 9,000 jobs. When redeveloped, it will be broken down into four distinct precincts — Rangeview Estates, Ogden Village, Innovation Corridor and Cultural Waterfront — to reflect differences in the function and character of the area.
The precincts will feature low to mid-rise residential, a central retail hub, community gathering spaces and a high-tech green campus with office, business employment, and research and development opportunities.
The Cultural Waterfront precinct, located along Lake Ontario at the southern end of the site, will provide direct access to the waterfront and will incorporate a variety of mixed uses, including waterfront attractions and incubator spaces for local artists.
“It really is going to be…something spectacular. It’s going to be something that everybody in this community can be proud of,” said Tovey. “It’s going to be a model of sustainability for the world.”
The official plan policies, dubbed by Tovey as the “most progressive in Canada”, include references to district energy, vacuum waste systems and stormwater canals that help protect the area’s natural heritage resources.
