Press Release from Heritage Mississauga: The Credits, a Celebration of Cultural Heritage
As a volunteer in years past, I wrote many news releases (aka press releases). These days, I much enjoy reading news releases that deal with topics that interest me.
As a volunteer and event organizer, I was also involved with charity casino fundraising in Ontario (we made over $70K, a lot of money in those days) before the Ontario Trillium Foundation took over such operations.
It’s great that Trillium now runs the show. What was in place previously (20 or so years ago) had some unique challenges, as I and other volunteers learned from experience in helping out at charity casinos that used to be in place, in community halls across Ontario.
The text of the news release follows below:

The Credits, a Celebration of Cultural Heritage
Mississauga, Ontario (November 1, 2016)
On October 12, 2017 in the presence of a sellout crowd, The Credits Heritage Mississauga Awards honoured members of the Mississauga community for their contributions and achievements with a celebration of our community heritage.
Heritage is many things to many people and the Credits truly celebrates our diverse people and events that contribute to our quality of life in Mississauga. We want to know you and recognize your heritage in order for us to understand and live harmoniously,” said Event Chair Luz Del Rosario
In its fifth year, the gala event presented an exciting evening with elegance from the Mississauga Grand Banquet and Convention Centre, delicious food and outstanding performances by Mississauga Artists River North, Rebecca Zseder the City’s Youth Poet Laureate and Kim Wheatley an Anishinaabe (Ojibway) Cultural Consultant.
In all there were 35 nominations received and 18 “Credits” presented during the evening. Each recipient received a one-of-a-kind piece of art, designed by the Living Art Centre’s Resident Glass Artist Kelly Lowe. The blown glass shimmers with swirling blues and gold representative of the Credit River.

Heritage Mississauga’s re-enactment group Thompson’s Company were once again on hand to keep the distinguished crowd in order, this year dressed as First World War Soldiers and in honour of Canada’s 150th our first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald was also in attendance.
