Thirty three church conversions in Toronto – Table 1 from Hackworth and Gullikson (2013)

Update

A June 4, 2018 CBC article is entitled: “This pastor closed his church: Graham Singh is saving a Montreal church by first closing the doors, then opening them wider than ever.”

[End]

In a previous post, I have summarized a paper by Hackworth and Gullikson (2013) regarding church conversions in Toronto.

Below is a table from the paper, which is based upon church conversions from 1987 until relatively recently.

Still more recent projects, such as the Asbury and West United Church project, among others, are not included on the list.

In a separate post, I will share a second table from the Hackworth and Gullikson (2013) paper in which the 33 projects on the table are sorted into categories, as outlined in my summary.

Conversions similar to proposed Wesley Mimico project

For purposes of situating the Wesley Mimico United Church project within a conceptual framework, it will be useful to list conversions from the Hackworth and Gullikson paper that are in a category similar to that of the Wesley Mimico project.

These are (with the current name in brackets):

      • St. James-Bond United Church (Living Life on the Ave. Retirement Residence) – Seniors Residence
      • St. Joseph’s Church ( St. Joseph’s Place) – Seniors Residence and Church
      • Hope United Church (Hope Centre) – Seniors Residence and Church
      • Canadian Martyrs Church (Hendrik’s Court) – Seniors Residence and Church
      • Bethel Baptist Church (Bethel Green Seniors Residence) – Seniors Residence and Church
      • Bedford Park United Church (Bedford Park Seniors’ Residence) – Seniors Residence and Church
      • St. Paul-Pietro Valdo Congregation of the United Church of Canada (Monaco Place) – Affordable Housing
      • Regent Park United Church (Toronto Christian Resource Centre) – Affordable Housing and Community Centre

In a separate post, I have reviewed the Bethel Green Seniors Residence project.
