CORRA objects to proposal for community groups to register with Lobbyist Registrar Office

I’m not a member of the Confederation of Resident and Ratepayer Associations in Toronto (CORRA). I’m posting the following text for the purpose of sharing information. Because of time constraints, I have not included the attached PDF files that accompanied the message.

The following message is from CORRA:

To Members, Resident and Ratepayer Executives:Please find attached Member Motion MM52.8 that will be considered at Council Meeting No. 52 on June 10, 2014 that would require community organizations of all types to register with the Lobbyist Registrar Office (LRO).Resident / Ratepayer groups by their very nature are voluntary organizations and work on behalf of their members dealing with local and / or city-wide matters that may affect them.  The proposed amendment would effectively exclude grass root organizations particularly in their formative stages.

Your Action is Required:

Please email/contact/correspond with your Councillor today (the link to City Councillors is provided here) and let him/her know with respect to MM52.8 Requirement to Register with the Lobbyist Registrar’s Office that:

  1. your group opposes the amendments to the Lobbying Chapter of the Municipal Code; and
  2. ratepayers / residents and other community groups continue to be exempt from the Lobbyist Registrar.

Thank you Ulla, and thank you David for bringing this matter to CORRA’s attention.  Attached is CORRA’s letter to all members of Council for your reference.
