As we remember #DDay, here’s a scene from the #SmallArms factory in #MississaugaLakeshore. We thank all who served!
Second World War archival photo posted at June 6, 2016 tweet by Sven Spengemann @SvenTrueNorth. The Small Arms factory was eventually demolished. However, the Small Arms Building was saved from demolition in 2009 thanks to volunteer efforts by the Lakeview Ratepayers Association. The presence, noted by an alert Lakeview resident, of a bulldozer at the Small Arms Building gave rise to a successful community-initiated effort led by Jim Tovey (now Councillor for Ward 1 at the City of Mississauga and at that time president of the Lakeview Ratepayers Association) to ensure that the building was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. The building will be repurposed with coordination by the Small Arms Society as a community resource devoted to arts, science, heritage, and related uses.
