It can be argued we are dealing with a poisoning crisis not overdose crisis

A Sept. 2, 2017 CBC article is entitled: “Is this an overdose crisis or a poisoning crisis?
Some doctors say the term ‘overdose’ increases stigma and is medically inaccurate.”

An excerpt reads: “Anyone familiar with the crisis will tell you that most drug users don’t intend to take fentanyl, but their drug supply happens to be contaminated with it. With B.C.’s drug supply so badly tainted, and stigma putting drug users at risk, is this an overdose crisis, or a poisoning crisis?”

Comment

As the article notes (and with this I strongly agree): “Words matter and stigma is powerful.”
