We look forward to the May 16, 2012 “Etobicoke and 1812” lecture by Denise Harris
The Long Branch Historical Society looks forward to participating in the May 16, 2012 Etobicoke and 1812 lecture by Denise Harris, president of the Etobicoke Historical Society.
The event, in commemoration of the War of 1812, will take place at the Mimico Centennial Library.
We are pleased to promote the lecture to our members and the wider public, and will have a display table in the library at the event itself.
In order to ensure the society is represented in promotional material connected with the event, Malcolm Archer, a member at large for the society, has designed a new logo for the Long Branch Historical Society.
The logo is based on the original corporate seal of the Village of Long Branch. With input from Jaan Pill, president, and Daryl Pantel, treasurer, Malcolm Archer has created a provisional version of the logo.
The original Village of Long Branch corporate seal is bright red. We have altered the colour to match the subdued sepia colour scheme that has been used in years past in materials prepared by the society. As Daryl Pantel has noted, it’s important to maintain consistency in the colour scheme.
Final adoption of the logo will require approval of the society’s executive.
Once we have fundraising in place, we’ll hire a professional graphic designer to fine-tune the image.
It’s our understanding that copyright ownership would have passed from the Village of long Branch to the City of Etobicoke and eventually to the City of Toronto, through a process of successive amalgamations of municipalities.
We are checking with a corporate management and policy consultant at the City of Toronto to ensure we are in compliance with copyright legislation in our use of the image — of the tree and water, and the sun on the horizon — featured in the original corporate seal (posted below) for the Village of Long Branch. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
