Wesley Mimico Place: the Renewal of Wesley Mimico United Church

STAND TOGETHER at EYCC this Tuesday Morning

Tuesday morning 10:15, June 17, 2014 at Etobicoke Civic Centre, the Etobicoke York Community Council (EYCC) will decide on the Re-Zoning of Wesley Mimico United Church. Without Re-zoning, the Renewal cannot proceed.

This Meeting is the offical PUBLIC MEETING for the Re-Zoning.  EYCC will review our proposal and any other materials it has received.  Then EYCC will vote on a recommendation to City Council about the proposal.

The STAFF REPORT recommends the Re-Zoning, and the EYCC can decide to accept, to defer, to amend, or to reject the STAFF REPORT recommendations.  As we have noted in prior bulletins, deferral or rejection will seriously imperil the church’s renewal.

You are entitled to make your views known (see contact info. below) by:

  • speaking (depute) at the EYCC meeting, and/or
  • submitting written comments.

EYCC will consider whether or not to approve:

  1. the Planning Department’s positive report on the Re-Zoning; and
  2. the Toronto Preservation Board’s support for Wesley’s plans on the architectural Heritage of the church.

Help Wesley Mimico at the EYCC Meeting

The Wesley Team will be addressing the EYCC, of course.  But a strong, supportive community presence is very important.  Some suporters plan to wear their Wesley Mimico United Church white tee shirts with the church graphic on the front, or another white tee shirt.  Wear yours!

We continue to hope that our Ward 6 Councillor Mark Grimes will move the motion to approve the staff report with its recommendations, but we do not have that assurance.  There are still a few people with concerns, and the many voices of support must reach all the Councillors at EYCC.

Do you have a Wesley Mimico United Church tee-shirt?  Wear it!!

I will be writing an email in support of the re-zoning. I urge you to do likewise. I have followed the redevelopment story since February 2012 [CORRECTION: not 2011 as I had incorrectly written earlier]. From all that I have observed, the congregation has ensured that the views of local residents, and the views of City of Toronto heritage professionals, have been taken into account as the redevelopment proposal has been developed and refined.

According to a June 13, 2014 Etobicoke Guardian article, Peter Milczyn expects to end his career as a councillor at the end of the coming week.
