I vividly remember those days in seventh grade, when Jaan Pill and I would walk with Peter across the field that separated our neighbourhood from school, sharing our thoughts of the day. After too many years apart, Peter was once again with Jaan and I to arrange our recent high school reunion at the Old Mill, once again to share his thoughts and so to keep us on course. He will always reside in my fond memories of life, as he will in those of all who knew him. Too soon gone, but so well remembered.

I remember Peter from the days when we were students at Malcolm Campbell High School (MCHS) in Montreal in the early 1960s. We kept in touch in the years that followed. Some years ago, when graduates of MCHS organized a Sixties Reunion, which was held in 2015 in Toronto, Peter was a key player on the organizing team. He knew so many people, from those years, and shared so many entertaining stories about them. He will be missed.

A lifelong friend for Carol, and for me since 1959. We were first introduced by Ruth Dods and played a game of checkers at Ralph & Ruth Dod’s house on Boulevard St-Germain in Montreal. Countless memories after that. Had been thinking about Peter and the Mearns family just before learning that he had “crossed the river.” He and his family were closely woven with many of us in Montreal. Distance did not loosen those ties… we have not forgotten. Condolences to Suzanne and the extended family.

“Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.”

” When we are called to part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again. “
